Photo by @taylorglenn // Sunrise at Deadvlei. Light and shadow. Form and color. A sliver of time recorded for eternity. Or eternity as we think we know it... What gets you out of bed in the morning? What inspires you? For me it's the opportunity to explore, to experience new places and people, to see extraordinary landscapes like this one. Travel can have a profound affect on you whether you are catching a flight to some far flung destination or simply visiting a nearby town or state. I think the world we inhabit is made a little better each time we get outside our comfort zone and expand our shared human experience. Video by @ChristineEckstrom and @FransLanting Experienced cheetah moms, like all good mothers, are both vigilant and tolerant. Watch how this mother puts up with the antics of her cubs until they wear themselves out and suckle and go to sleep. What you don’t see here is how this mother is constantly scanning the horizon for signs of trouble. The fate of cheetahs as a species depends on the ability of a small number of exceptional females to nurture cubs to independence and to keep them safe while doing so. We call them “supermoms.” And any mother who is juggling child care with earning a living and other responsibilities, can relate to that. We are posting this clip in recognition of NatGeo’s BigCat Week. Tune in to NG Channel’s cheetah film by Bob Poole tonight. Follow me @FransLanting for more stories from the wild world of cheetahs.

The World at Night photography
See one of the year’s best meteor showers on Wednesday night Dec 13-14. Through my career as a night sky photographer for about 20 years I have encountered many dazzling meteors, known as fireball. This one was captured from a camp in Kenya over an Acacia tree with Moon and a parade of planets (Venus, Jupiter, Mars). Known as the Geminid meteor shower it will be visible from most of the world, slightly favored for northern hemisphere. The peak time is expected from midnight to 4 am on the 14th with 1 or 2 meteors per minute. Though the show begin from the 13th evening, after 9pm. It’s best to enjoy it in a dark sky away from city light. Learn more on natgeo.com, search for “Geminids 2017” article and follow me @babaktafresh to explore wonders of the earth & sky photography.
Photo: @emilypolar Coming up over the hill upon this flat expanse of land to see Nepalis playing around on bikes my first thought was Burning Man of Nepal! It’s the only flat spot to learn how to ride a bike and play around in Lukla, the airport of the Himalayas and jumping point for Everest. Photo @stephen_matera // Full moon rising over the North Cascades at dusk. Smoke from a nearby wildfire created haze that created this erie moonrise. Erosion from glaciers has formed the North Cascades into one of the steepest and most rugged mountain ranges in the lower 48. Some peaks have an astounding 8,000+ feet of elevation gain, like Mt. Shuksan on the left side of this image which rises 8,400' on it's south side. Photo @ladzinski / The midnight sun- While pushing south on an expedition to greenland this last summer we experienced a night I will never forget. A sunset that lasted over 4 hours, so long it faded seemlessly into sunrise, only in the Arctic! To see more photos of the arctic please visit @ladzinski
